John Singer Sargent: Portrait Painter to the Rich

If you love Downton Abbey, you can exult in sumptuous depictions of the British and American upper class of the Gilded Age, many of them 'Downton types.'  Each portrait is a compelling story of a vibrant personality. Sargent was an American expatriate with a reputation as a consummate gentleman, but drawn into a scandal over his painting of the infamous Madame X.  He was also a gifted water colorist of beautiful outdoor scenes.  Claire Cross, Art Historian, tells the story of his life and opulent times via gorgeous color slides of his luscious paintings.
