Annual Meeting and Lecture

Sunday, January 26, 2014
2:00-3:30 PM
Free and open to the public

The Wilmette Historical Museum welcomes author Richard Cahan as the guest speaker at our Annual Meeting this year. Mr. Cahan will discuss the photography of Vivian Maier and his book, Vivian Maier: Out of the Shadows. Signed copies of the book will be available for sale following the lecture.

Richard Cahan and Michael Williams' beautiful hardcover book contains a careful selection of street photographer Vivian Maier's most stunning black and white photographs. Drawing from the enormous collection of negatives held by Jeffrey Goldstein, Cahan and Williams include photographs that leap from the page and excite the modern viewer. Maier's photographs explore daily life in Wilmette, the North Shore, and Chicagoland in the 1960s and 1970s. Longtime Wilmette residents will certainly recognize some of the scenes Maier captured during her time as a nanny in Wilmette. Since the recent discovery of her negatives, Maier has become a sensation. Her photographs have been exhibited at the Chicago Cultural Center, the Chicago History Museum, and galleries across the world.
