Making a List: The Secular Songs of Christmas
You know that old adage about many of the great Christmas
songs being written by Jews? Find out for yourself if it's true! Most of these
songs were written between 1942 and 1952 in a burst of activity inspired by the
enormous success of Irving Berlin's White Christmas and came into existence in
various and surprising ways. Taken together these songs paint a fascinating
cultural picture of America itself, not just of its Christmas songs, in the era
during and after World War II. Charles Troy presents the lecture on Monday, 12/9 from 10 - 11:30am. The cost is $12 member; $15 non-member and registration is required. Call 847/784-6030. Website www.nssc.org.
