Painted Women: Impressionist Images (NSSC Class)
Women of late 19th century France provided an enormous wealth of subject matter for the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, particularly Degas, Renoir, and Toulouse-Lautrec. Numerous portraits by these masters and their colleagues reflect the wide variety of women's roles in French society. Whether from the mundane world of laundresses to the strenuous depictions of young ballet dancers, the demimondaine world of Paris night life or proper bourgeois matrons, these images provide extraordinarily rich documentation of this dynamic period in French history. Presented by Tish Robinson of The Wonders of France.
