Spring Into Pink 5K Walk for Breast Cancer Research & Awareness

In order to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and research, 13-year old Lexie Kaplan is organizing a 5K walk in memory of her mother, Felicia Kaplan. The “Spring Into Pink” walk will bring together hundreds of supporters of all ages from surrounding North Shore communities to support Lexie and her efforts.  The walk will begin at 8:00am on Saturday, May 3rd in Gillson Park, Wilmette (in the field just west of the tennis courts and playground) and will continue through the streets of Wilmette.  Registration is $25 per participant and will include a t-shirt (while supplies last) and light breakfast following the walk. Lexie states, "I'm very excited to be organizing the Spring into Pink walk to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research.  My mother, Felicia Kaplan, passed away two years ago after a courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was only 42 years old.  My hope is that Spring into Pink can play a role in preventing other young girls from losing their moms, aunts and grandmothers to this terrible disease."Funds raised from the Spring into Pink 5K will benefit the Felicia Kaplan Memorial Foundation, which is proud to support breast cancer awareness and research organizations including Bright Pink.  Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focusing on the prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women, while providing support for high-risk individuals. For more information about Spring Into Pink and to register for the walk, go to www.springintopink.com.
