CELEBRATION OF 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF LINDEN “L”

The "L" arrived in Wilmette under cover of darkness on April Fool's Day, 1912. Originally opposed by Village officials, the new train service quickly became popular with commuters and the anchor for a new business district at 4th and Linden.

Christopher S. Canning, Wilmette Village President, and CTA officials will kick-off this celebration at 11:00 a.m.  Following their brief comments, guests will have the rare opportunity to tour two historic 1923 "L" cars. The Wilmette Community Band will provide Dixieland music.

This event is sponsored by the CTA, Wilmette Historical Museum, Wilmette Chamber of Commerce, North Shore Community Bank and Village of Wilmette.
