New Trier Township Seeks Donations For Lean Summer Months

New Trier Township food pantry has seen the number of households it serves triple to 100 compared with six years ago and now the organization is seeking donation during the lean summer months, Chicago Tribune reports.

“The summer months are historically a time when people don’t adhere to schedules and as a result they don’t make Pantry donations as frequently as they do during the school year,” the food pantry wrote in a blog post. “The tapering off of donations occurs annually simultaneous to the increase in need.”

The food pantry is asking for donations in the form of health snacks, condiments, paper goods and salad dressings, “We still have food on our shelves but we need more variety,” Brian Leverenz, the township’s community services administrator, told the newspaper.
