Going Green Matters – Go Green Wilmette’s Sustainability Fair

Go Green Wilmette and the Village of Wilmette present the 7th annual community environmental fair, "Going Green Matters 2013" on Sunday, March 10th at the Woman's Club of Wilmette.

Go Green Wilmette and the Village of Wilmette present the 7th annual community environmental fair, “Going Green Matters 2013” on Sunday, March 10th at the Woman’s Club of Wilmette.  If you have liked previous fairs, you are sure to love this one.  It promises to be an afternoon of fascinating activities for all ages.  See the latest in eco cars, commuter bikes, and home energy efficiencies.  Enjoy nature activities for children and adults, cooking demonstrations and good food.  Bring old electronics and Styrofoam for recycling.  Event is free. Whether you are new to living more sustainably, or a seasoned environmentalist, “Going Green Matters” will help you make great choices for your home, garden, recreation and transportation needs. Enjoy hands-on activities and get the scoop on what Wilmette businesses, schools and the Village are doing to reduce their carbon footprints. Get composting and gardening tips, find the right light bulbs for your home, see cooking demonstrations and sample some good food.

Go Green Wilmette works to raise environmental awareness in Wilmette and to inspire residents, Village government, businesses and other organizations to take action to live more sustainably. Go Green Wilmette works with residents, schools, the Park District, the Library, the Village and local businesses to achieve our goals. We offer educational seminars, Wilmette-specific green resources, film showings, environmentally focused gatherings, an annual spring environmental symposium and various other activities.

Volunteers always enjoy participating and can help visitors recycle electronics and Styrofoam, serve in the Go Green Café, set up and take down the fair, and assist attendees to learn about reducing their carbon footprint. Volunteers are needed for 2-hour shifts between 12:00 and 5:00 PM. on March 10th at The Woman's Club of Wilmette, 930 Greenleaf Ave.

Be on the lookout for  “The Plastic Bag Monster” who tells visitors about the problems related to throwaway plastics.
