West Nile Virus Found in Wilmette and Kenilworth

Mosquito batches in Wilmette and Kenilworth tested by the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District were positive for West Nile virus.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) has found West Nile virus positive mosquitoes collected from traps in Wilmette on July 29 and in Kenilworth on July 24, reported the Wilmette Life.

Current test results from NSMAD

Both batches have been sent to the Illinois Natural History Survey for more testing, according to the story. Read more at www.wilmette.suntimes.com.

The NSMAD reminds residents to protect themselves by avoiding outdoor activity between dawn and dusk, covering exposed skin with loose fitting, light colored clothing and wearing repellent. Residents should also check around their homes and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sources particularly any items that can hold water. If it can hold water, it can breed mosquitoes.
