Obituary: Rosemary Ethel Scholl

Scholl was 92 years old.

August 14, 1920 - December 20, 2012

Rosemary Scholl nee Howard, 92, of Wilmette, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, in Carlsbad, California at Glen View Assisted Living, where she had resided for the last 9 years.

She died peacefully, under the care of hospice, having had all of her children present for the previous week.

Rosemary Ethel Howard was born in Chicago on Aug. 14, 1920 to Anna Gertrude (nee Ackerman) and Michael J. Howard. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. After graduation she was employed as a receptionist at Scholl Mfg. Co. in Chicago, where she met her future husband, Charles F. Scholl. They were married in June, 1940. They lived in Chicago until 1953, when they moved with her father and their then five children to Wilmette. Later they added a sixth child to the family.

Rosemary took an active part in St Francis Xavier parish, where all six children attended grade school. She was an officer in the Wilmette Catholic Women's Club, and regularly supported the St. Francis parish rummage sales, working in the "French room".

Rosemary and Charles loved to travel, enjoying trips all over the 50 states, as well as abroad, including the Holy Land, Europe, China, South America, Australia, and Scandinavia.

Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, thoroughly enjoying every opportunity to visit with family.

Beloved wife for 66 years of the late Charles F. Scholl; loving mother of Mary Kay (John) Bowles , Carol (the late John) Burnett, Sally (Ric) Stran, Eileen Scholl (John Thurman), Charles Jr., and Donna Scholl; fond sister – in- law of Allan P. (Nari) Scholl and Sister Edith OCSO; proud grandmother of Cathy Brueggen Eastman, Chrissy Brueggen Bowers, Carl Brueggen, Michael Brueggen, Teri Burnett, Bob Burnett, Steve Burnett, Julie Burnett Ritchie, Laura Stran, Lisa Stran White, Meghan Stran Popp, Eric Stran, Peter Stran, Anna Lika Scholl-Thurman, Ryan Scholl-Thurman; fifteen great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 28 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at Donnellan Family Funeral, 100145 Skokie Blvd., Skokie and Mass begins at 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Xavier Church, 524 9th St., Wilmette

Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Evanston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association 8430 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., Chicago; Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle St., 4th floor, Chicago; or San Diego Hospice, 4311 3rd Ave., San Diego.
