The following is a letter to the editor from Lyn B. Kaufman of Kenilworth Gardens.
I am writing as a disappointed parent. It is Halloween and I live in Kenilworth Gardens. After spending an enjoyable two hours sitting on my front step handing out candy to many children in the neighborhood, we went inside. We left our halfway-full bowl of candy on the landing so we wouldn't miss anyone by being inside. Five minutes later trick-or-treaters rang the doorbell. I went to the door to say "Please help yourself to the candy that is in the bowl." Much to my dismay there was no bowl with candy. The bowl and the candy had been taken. All of it.
How did I know that my orange rubber bowl with handles would be so easily transported? It is so disappointing to know that some kid or kids would feel ok basically stealing from us. I am sure this was not a need based robbery, just some kids thinking how cool it was to steal not just what candy was left, but the bowl as well.
Needless to say, this incident has really disappointed me and left my family with a really upsetting memory of Halloween 2011. If anyone has found the orange bowl or has it (you know who you are) please return it.
We had quite the opposite occur last night. We ran out of candy early. As I handed the last two pieces out to two eight year oldish looking boys, I said "that's the last of it. We're out of candy." To this one of the boys replied "need some?" and offered his bag to me. What a great kid.
