An Erudite Vandal and An Odd Case of Road Rage

A look at unusual crimes in our Patch region.

Local police departments provided the following reports. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt.

Skokie police responded to a theft at a Subway shop after a teen allegedly ordered a foot-long steak and cheese and fled the store after being handed the sandwich.

A Northbrook man was arrested after he allegedly vandalized a home by leaving dog and cat feces on the driveway, scattering papers in front of the home and pouring chemicals on the lawn. Police said the vandalism took place over several months and that the suspect was angry at his homeowner's association.

An 18-year-old man was driving in Northfield around 4:15 p.m. when a car began honking at him before passing him at a high rate of speed. When the other driver, a 61-year-old woman, got in front of him, she slammed on the brakes. They both got out of their cars, and as the man asked if there was a problem, the woman slapped him. Police brought both parties to the station, and although the woman never explained herself, the man said he didn't want to press charges. She apologized, and everyone dispersed.

Someone removed three handmade, wooden Easter bunnies from the front yard of a Des Plaines home. The bunnies were valued at $50. In another incident at the same location, someone took a three-foot tall, gray and brown hand-painted Easter bunny lawn caricature from the front of the home. That Easter bunny was valued at $100.

Someone took 12 flea and tick medication packets worth $890 from a Northbrook PetSmart.

A large stencil was used to spray paint a face on the fence of a Wilmette home. The homeowner said the picture reminded her of Che Guevara or the Shroud of Turin.

Highland park is the absolute WORST city to drive in on the north shore....it is as if no one in that city understands 4 way stops...no one.

On the other hand no one in deerfield seems to understand that those coming over railroad tracks have the right of way..

I think Northbrook has the worst drivers out of anywhere. Massive SUVs are driven by people who can't maneuver them. Sorry Northbrook! =P

Whoa, I've got to speak up in favor of Northbrook! I think our drivers have good manners, at least on the roads. Signaling, driving the speed limit, that sort of thing. When it comes to parking lot etiquette, however...no comment!

@Jennifer Yes! I agree 100 percent! You phrased what I was trying to say perfectly. I was referring to parking. =)
