Auto, Garage Burglaries Prompt Crime Alert

Several bicycle thefts have also caused Wilmette Police to issue the notice.

Wilmette Police issued a crime alert Saturday evening due to a series of car and garage burlgaries that have occurred since May 23. Additionally, the police are notfiying residents of bicycle thefts, since six have been stolen since mid-May. The incidents are listed below. Authorities advise to use a "U" lock when lcoking up bikes.:

GARAGE, AUTO BURGLARIES
A resident in the 100 block of Milbrook lane reported on May 24 that his unlocked car was burglarized between May 20 and May 21. The auto was parked in the resident's driveway when a laptop, jewelry and iPod chargers were stolen.

An iPad was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in front of a business in Eden's Plaza, 3200 block of Lake Avenue, between 6:30 a.m. and 6:35 a.m. on May 24. The car owner was in Starbuck's when the theft occurred. The victim believes a man, a caucasian male in his 60's wearing a red shirt, green pants and glasses, who stepped in front of him to order was involved with the crime.

A briefcase was taken from the front seat of an unlocked car that had its windows open in the 900 block of Linden Avenue between 7:10 p.m. and 7:25 p.m. on May 23.

A red and black Chariot jogging stroller was taken from an open garage in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue between May 9 and May 23.

A silver and green Trek bicycle was taken from a detached garage in the 1000 block of Greenleaf Avenue that had been left open between May 24 and May 25.

BICYCLE THEFT

A red and black Schwinn falcon was taken from McKenzie School, 600 block of Prairie Avenue, between May 13 and May 18. The bike was unlocked.

A burgundy Diamondback Edgewood LX men's bike was taken from the Wilmette Metra station, 722 Green Bay Rd., between 8 a.m. and 6:10 p.m. on May 20.

A neighbor in the 1000 block of 13th Street saw an offender take a purple Schwinn mountain bike from the front of a home nearby between 7:45 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on May 21. The offender was described as caucasian, mid-to-late teens, dark hair and wearing dark shorts, as well as a light shirt.

A bicycle that was locked up at the Wilmette Metra Station, 722 Green Bay Rd., was taken between 8 a.m. and 6:08 p.m. on May 24.

A rust-brown Haro Railer bicycle with red tire rims was taken from the Linden CTA station, 339 Linden Ave., between 9:25 a.m. and 2:40 p.m. on May 24. The bike was locked with a cable lock.

A black and red Giant Revel boy's bicycle was taken from St. Xavier School, 524 9th St., between 8:15 a.m. and 3 p.m. on May 24. The bike was locked.
