Central and 10th Closed After House Fire

The fire resulted in no injuries but severe damage to a water main.

Painters using a heat gun started a fire on the first floor of a home at 1000 Central Avenue Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the first floor of the two-story home and there were no injuries, said Lt. Tony Bucci. The received assistance from Glenview, Evanston, Northfield, Winnetka and Glencoe, which Bucci said is standard procedure.

The fire led to a significant water main break at the intersection of Central Avenue and 10th Street, closing the intersection while Wilmette Public Works conducted repairs.
