Chicago Woman Charged with Burglary Theft, Forgery

Wilmette police arrested Anna Spraggins on June 8 for alleged theft from a vehicle and forgery.

A 23-year-old Chicago woman was arrested by Wilmette police on Wednesday for allegedly stealing from an unlocked car and forging checks in the victim's name.

Anna Spraggins had been going door to door soliciting magazine subcriptions on May 23 when she supposedly entered the vehicle and took a briefcase, according to a statement from Police Chief Brian King. The bag contained the Wilmette resident's checkbook, which Spraggins later used to write more than $500 in forged checks.

Police arrested Spraggins in the 1000 block of South Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling and charged her with burglary to an automobile, as well as forgery. She appeared in bond court Thursday morning and will return to Skokie Courthouse on June 20 at 1:30 p.m.
