Criminal Damage and Harassment
A Wilmette woman living in the 2300 block of Pomona Lane told police on Dec. 5 that she has been the victim of several incidents of vandalism and harassment during the past two months. According to the police report, the woman said that Christmas lights on the outside of her home had been cut twice within the previous week and that on Dec. 1, someone had pried and damaged the door to her handmade mailbox, causing approximately $150 in damages.
The woman also told police about several other strange incidents, including an unknown offender drawing a line on her car with a silver marker, someone pushing over a basketball hoop at her home, someone throwing eggs at her home, someone leaving an empty box of condoms on the front window sill of her home and a unknown person leaving several pornographic magazine by her front door.
Police said the woman had reported a similar string of criminal damage incidents in April.
Burglary to a Motor Vehicle
Two cars parked near the 1900 block of Birchwood Avenue were burglarized between 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 and 7:30 a.m. the following day. One car had been ransacked, and a $120 briefcase, $20 to $40 in cash and a check book were reported stolen. The owner of the second vehicle told police that he had left his car unlocked, and that a $100 pair of golf shoes, a $100 portable air pump a cell phone battery charger and a cell phone battery had been stolen.
Fraud
A Wilmette woman told police on Dec. 4 that someone had opened two credit cards in her and her husband’s names. According to the police report, the woman said she received two letters from credit card companies on Nov. 29, each expressing security concerns about irregular activity on accounts in her and her husband’s names. There had been $638 in purchases made on one of the account. The woman told police that neither she nor her husband had applied for the credit cards.
Theft
A Wilmette woman told police that someone had stolen two credit cards and a debit card from her wallet sometime on Dec. 6 or Dec. 7.
Suspended Driver’s License
Jose F. Romero, 41, of the 5900 block of West Warwick Avenue, Chicago, was arrested for driving on a suspended license after she was stopped for exceeding the speed limit in the 2800 block of Lake Avenue at 8:47 a.m. on Dec. 4.
