Driver Who Killed Winnetka Teen Had BAC Nearly 3 Times Legal Limit, Prosecutors Say

The driver who killed Sarah McCausland in upstate New York had a blood alcohol content of 0.23 percent, according to prosecutors.

New York prosecutors say that the woman who drove into a group of Bard College students walking on the side of the road, killing 19-year-old Sarah McCausland of Winnetka, had a blood alcohol content that was nearly three times the legal limit, according to an article in the Daily Freeman, which covers the area near Bard in upstate New York.

McCausland, a 2013 New Trier graduate, was a freshman at Bard when she was walking with friends Jan. 31. Prosecutors say Carol Boeck, 63, drove into the group and then drove away, but was arrested a short time later. McCausland and a fellow student, 20-year-old Evelina Brown, of Seattle, were found dead at the scene. A third student was injured.

She was involved in music and theater programs at New Trier, and remembered for her intelligence and integrity.
