Indictment Expected Soon in Wall Case

Wilmette man restrained and beat girlfriend, county authorities charge.

An indictment against a 38-year-old Wilmette man on charges of domestic battery and unlawful restraint is expected within the next two weeks, according to an announcement from the Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie.

A county grand jury will render its ruling in the case involving , who was arrested June 11 by Wilmette police after his girlfriend reported he forcibly detained her and beat her over a three-hour period that day.

The alleged assault occurred after the 35-year-old woman visited Wall at his mother’s home at 748 Leamington Ave., according to records.

“This case is going to the grand jury,” Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Abigail Siedlecki told Judge Larry Axelrood in answering a question.

The judge had asked her if she was ready for a preliminary hearing to determine if sufficient evidence exists for formal charges.

Wall, a husky looking man, appeared in court with his attorney, Frank DiFranco, who indicated he was ready for the hearing despite the fact Siedlecki had not provided prosecutorial evidence.

“I’ve been given no discovery to review or any information,” DiFranco said. “We were ready for a preliminary hearing but they [prosecutors] wanted to go to the grand jury.

"They’ll probably return a true bill,” he added, referring to the technical term for a grand jury indictment.

Axelrood continued the case until 1:30 p.m. July 5 at the county courthouse in Skokie. The defendant remains free on a $260,000 bond.
