Judge Calls Mistrial in Embezzlement Case

Donald Lukens is accused of taking from a $225,000 Wilmette resident

Triblocal reports that an outburst by Wilmette resident Marietta Egen resulted in a mistrial in the case against Donald Dayton Lukens.

Lukens, a Chicago resident, is accused of defrauding Egen for $225,000. The Web site reports that the two met in 2006 through a dating Web site and Egen asked him to invest the payout from her late husband’s life insurance policy. Instead he used it to pay for his rent and vacations.

According to Triblocal Egen was on the witness stand in Skokie Tuesday when she said that Lukens attacked her when she asked for the money back. He was never charged with assaulting or abusing Egen and attorneys had agreed that those allegations would not be made in front of the jury.
