Northfield Police Connect 13 Car Burglaries To Northbrook

Northfield police connected crime scene evidence with charged suspects from a recent string of vehicular burglaries in Northbrook.

The following information was based on a Department Commendation shared by the Northfield Police Department, congratulating the police officers for their work.

Northfield police received thirteen vehicular burglary calls between October 21 and 25, last year. While investigating for evidence, Sgt. JJ McCulloh lifted finger prints off a vehicle that produced no matches after lab analysis.

After attending detective meetings with police departments from surrounding police, detective Thomas Hanus noticed the Northbrook Police Department had arrested three men in November in relation to 12 vehicle burglaries there — , all 18 from Chicago.

Hanus then sent out the prints McCulloh lifted in October for analysis, which matched one of Northbrook's three suspects. Hanus and a Northbrook detective interviewed the suspect, who told the officers that another man that was already in jail committed the Northfield burglaries.

Hanus and Louis Zaknoun then interviewed the second suspect, and he confessed to the Northfield burglaries, clearing 13 vehicular burglary cases and leaving with new Criminal Trespass to Vehicle charges.
