UPDATE: Evanston Man Struck, Killed in Metra Incident

According to authorities, the individual was hit by a north-bound train late afternoon Friday.

A 76-year-old Evanston man was struck and killed by a northbound Metra train in Wilmette early Friday evening. According to a police statement, witnesses said the subject walked onto the tracks, crouched down in front of the train and was killed instantly.

"The preliminary indication is that the death is a suicide," according to Wilmette Police.

The body was taken to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office after the incident. Trains were delayed between 45 minutes to an hour and 38 minutes, according to Metra's website.

Wilmette police confirmed a report on Friday at 5 p.m. that a pedestrian was struck by a Metra train headed north. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential suicide. Both northbound and southbound trains on the Union Pacific/ North Line (UP-N) are experiencing delays. Stay tuned for more information.
