Police Arrest Wilmette Man for Christmas Homicide

A 24-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested by police on Christmas for the murder of his 49-year-old aunt, according to a statement released Monday from Chief Brian King.

Anthony Rapoport had been arrested by police the day before, on Christmas Eve, following a verbal argument with his aunt, Nancee Rapoport, the release states. Wilmette police arrested Anthony Friday after a background check revealed he had an "outstanding warrant for an aggravated assault case in Skokie," according to officials. Anthony was held overnight and released Saturday.

He subsequently returned to his aunt's home at 3115 Hill Lane, which is where he grew up and continued to live, King said.

The Friday incident was not the first time police were called to the house.

"Over the years we have responded to a number of disputes at that residence.," King said, some of which involved Anthony and Nancee.

Officials received a 9-1-1 call at around 4 p.m. Saturday from a relative regarding a possible homicide at the residence on Hill Lane. The relative, whom officials have not named, did not live in the home, according to King.

Rapoport was later found by police on foot with bloodied clothing in the 3100 block of Temple Lane early Saturday evening, the report states. Rapoport has since been held in Wilmette Police lock-up. After being taken in, police said Anthony admitted to striking Nancee with an aluminum baseball bat, which was recovered from the scene.

According to investigators, the suspect said he was tired of being "nagged" by the victim.

Anthony faces bond court at the Skokie courthouse at 1 p.m. Monday.
