Police Charge Evanston Teen in Skokie Shooting

Charges have been filed against an Evanston teen for a shooting that occurred outside Old Orchard Mall in Skokie on May 17.

Criminal charges have been filed against Rayshawn Taylor, 17 , of the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue in Evanston, in connection with a shooting that took place outside Old Orchard Mall near the intersection of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard. Taylor is  charged with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

Taylor shot a juvenile with a semiautomatic pistol on May 17 around 9:45 p.m., police said. When officers arrived at the scene, they observed a male subject lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He is currently in stable condition.

"This was not a random act," Skokie Deputy Chief Mike Pechter told Patch.

Taylor's bond has been set at $250,000 and is under electronic home monitoring, police said. His next court date is May 31.

Details on whether the victim or offender attended a nearby carnival on the night of the shooting are unclear at this time.

If new information comes in, Skokie Patch will update.

Omar - Yes, Skokie has become more violent. The past crimes you cite while extremely disturbing are more of retaliation and domestic violence. There have been more crimes in the past 5-8 years that have been towards random individuals at anytime of the day or night by young male teens (like the one who was just arrested) and most of the time there is a gun involved. Study the statistics the Village has published. Not sure why you are so threatened by Ms. Lipin! She and her friends are for a better Skokie. What is the job description of the Mayor and Trustees?

I also wonder why no one from the Village has spoken out. Was there any article in the Skokie Review this week?

She has a point- this is a big enough deal for Van Dusen to make a comment..

Right here is the biggest problem with gun laws. He's out on bond with a bracelet. He tried to kill somebody with an illegal firearm! The rest of us law abiding citizens will surely pay for his crime!
