Wilmette Police are still following up on a . The incident occurred in the 2500 block of Marion Lane, police reports state.
"The detectives are still following up [on the invasion]," Wilmette Police Chief Brian King said. "We're still working on it."
The woman was leaving the home at approximately 9:30 p.m. when she was confronted by the offenders, who forced her back into the home, reports state. One subject was armed with a handgun. Her family, who owns a restaurant in Chicago, discovered her when they returned home around 10:30 p.m. The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
"This was not a random act of violence," King said. "This family was selected."
To prevent burglaries, King advises people to lock their doors and take other precautions.
"I encourage people to call the police when you see something suspicious," he said. "And leave the lights on in the evening if you're going to be away from home."
