Police Parking Tips for July 3 Celebrations
Wilmette Police issued an announcement in light of the upcoming festivities.
Wilmette police are encouraging people to take public transit to Independence Day festivities on July 3, according to a statement released Monday.
"Each year on the day of the event, the Wilmette Police Department issues hundreds of parking citations for offenses such as parked in no parking zones, parking in crosswalks and in front of fire hydrants," the announcement states.
To encourage public transportation, PACE is offering 20 additional buses to shuttle attendees from Edens Plaza to the Metra commuter parking lot. The bus will also travel along Lake Avenue and Central Avenue, making stops every 10 minutes between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and then about every five minutes between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Shuttles will also be available when fireworks end at.

For event goers who still want to drive, however, the parking in the Metra lot will be free for the day.
