Police: Suspect Arrested During Car Burglary-in-Progress

Mark Leondorf, a 19-year-old Wilmette resident, was caught burglarizing a Wilmette vehicle on Tuesday.

Mark Leondorf, 19, of Wilmette is in police custody after he admitting to burglarizing a car on the 900 block of Chestnut Ave on Tuesday, Wilmette Police reports state.

Wilmette Police apprehended Leondorf around 5:30 p.m. on May 14 after a resident called about a burglary-in-progress. The resident confronted Leondorf when he was inside one of the family's vehicles. Police reports state that he fled the scene but was located by responding officers at the intersection of 9th St. and Forest Ave. He was identified in a show-up and arrested.

Police reports state that Leondorf admitted to entering the vehicle and was charged with burglary to auto. He was held by police overnight and attended a bond hearing on Wednesday.
