Police: Glenview Women Injected Heroin at Wilmette Dairy Queen

Two Glenview women have been arrested and charged with felony drug possession after a police officer reported seeing one inject heroin into her arm in the parking lot of a Wilmette Dairy Queen.

Wilmette police arrived at the scene, responding to an anonymous report received at 1:39 p.m. on Tuesday that two people in a black car parked in the rear of the ice cream shop’s parking lot were using hypodermic syringes.

Katherine S. Karls, 24, of the 1400 block of Pendleton Lane and Jessica L. Johnson, 20, of the 1700 block of Wildberry Drive were each charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and two misdemeanor counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the police press release, when the officer knocked on the car window, Johnson attempted to hide a syringe inside a storage space and Karls put something in her purse.

Police reported that during the ensuing investigation, they recovered one hypodermic syringe with heroin in it, two empty hypodermic syringes, a spoon with residue and five foil packets containing heroin.

The police press release states that during processing, Karls told an officer, “We had to pull the car over. She just had to have a hit.”

Both women are scheduled to appear in Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie on Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m.
