Wilmette Man Dies After Fall Through Glass Coffee Table

Police say they have launched a death investigation.

A 58-year-old Wilmette man died early this morning after falling backward through a glass coffee table and severely wounding his back, police reported.

Brian C. Baker, of the 1200 block of Ashland Avenue, was pronounced dead at 12:47 a.m. at Evanston Hospital, succumbing to his injuries just over a half hour after Wilmette police and fire departments were called to his home, police said.

When officers and firefighters arrived at Baker’s home, they found him on the kitchen floor, “severely bleeding from his back from wounds that appeared to have been caused by shards of glass from the coffee table,” according to a police press release.
