Series of Burlgaries Strike Wilmette

Culprits could be one or two burglary crews, police chief said.

Six residential burglaries have occurred in the last two days, according to a statement released by Police Wilmette Chief Brian King.

Burglars targeted jewelry, flatware and furs in the series of forced-entry incidents. Officials will be boosting security in the effected areas with additional marked and unmarked patrols in the evening.

"We believe that there is probably one or two active burglary crews," King told Patch in an email interview.

According to police reports the following thefts occurred Tuesday and Wednesday:

Nov. 30:

          1. Between 3:00 pm and 9:33 pm, suspect(s) forced through the side door of a residence in the 700 block of Leamington Avenue. The offenders took jewelry, money and flatware.

           2. Between 8:00am and 7:30pm, suspect(s) opened a first floor window of a residence on the 800 block of 17th Street. The offender(s) took jewelry and a handgun from a bedroom and basement.  

Dec. 1:

            1. Beteween 6:30am and 8:26pm, suspect(s) opened a side door attached to the garage of a residence in the 2800 block of Birchwood Avenue. The offenders took jewelry and fur coats from numerous bedrooms and other rooms.

            2. Between 8:50am and 11:00pm, suspect(s) opened a first floor window of a residence on the 2800 blok of Birchwood Abenue. The offender(s) took money and gold investment coins after potentially unscrewing a motion detector light.

            3. Between 12:57pm and 6:45pm, suspects entered a first floor window of a residence on the 2000 block of Kenilworth Avenue. The offenders took jewelry from upstairs bedrooms.

            4. Between 6:30pm and 7:45pm, suspect(s) entered a first floor window of a residence on the 1000 block of Miami Road. The offender(s) took jewelry, a laptop, a silver serving dish and a digital camera from bedrooms as well as the dining room.

Officials said that residents should immediately report any suspicious persons or vehicles to police.
