Tuesday Blotter: Bicycles Stolen, Home Egged and Utility Box Grafittied

Wilmette's Police blotter takes a look at criminal activity from the previous week.

GARAGE BURGLARY

An offender stole a silver ladies cruiser-style bicycle from a garage in the 600 block of Greenleaf Avenue between 12 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. Feb. 13. The victim told authorities that the garage door might have been left open.

DIVESIONARY BURGLARY

An elderly female resident in the 2800 block of Wilmette Avenue was the victim of a diversionary burglary between 2 and 2:14 p.m. Feb. 15. Two unknown males entered the home, claiming to be checking water pressure in the area. While the victim was in the basement with one of the males, the other remained upstairs in the home. Afterward the victim discovered that the suspects had taken jewelry and cash from her wallet. The two males were described to authorities as follows:

  • The first male is believed to be 30 to 40-years-old, 5'4" to 5'7" with olive skin, a thin build and facial hair around his chin. He was last seen wearing a non-descriptive coat and an unknown type of baseball hat, according to police.
  • The second male is believed to be 30 to 40 years-old, 5'8" to 5'10" with darker skin a heavier build and bald or close cropped hair, as well as a rounder or egg-shaped head, according to police.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

An offender sprayed the word "DRAG" in red on an electrical box in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue between 6 a.m. Feb. 11 and 5:22 a.m. Feb. 14.

Unkown juveniles egged a home in the 900 block of Linden Avenue between 6:45 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. Feb. 11.

THEFT

A Wilmette resident's unlocked yellow Mongoose bicycle was taken from the Keay Nature Center's bike rack sometime between Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, according to a report filed Friday.

A Chicago resident reported four of her hubcaps stolen from her car parked in the 1200 block of Central Avenue at 5:20 p.m. on Feb. 17. The victim told authorities that three unknown males were around her car when she left work that Thursday. The males were described as follows:

  • A 40 to 50-year-old Hispanic male of medium build and roughly 5'8" to 5'10" in height.
  • A 20 to 30-year-old Hispanic male of stocky build and roughly  5'8" to 5'10" in height.
  • An unidentified Hispanic male.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

Two Eastern European females in a Chrysler van pulled up to a residence in the 1100 block of Hibbard Road between 2:15 p.m. and 2:19 p.m. Feb. 17. The two females left when a resident asked them what they were doing.
