Wilmette Blotter: Man Interrupts Burglars

The following information was supplied by the Wilmette police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Residential burglary

Between $30,000 and $40,000 worth of jewelry and two $2,000 Chanel bags were stolen between 9:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the 800 block of Greenleaf Avenue.

A resident of the 3100 block of Wilmette was getting out of the bathroom in his upstairs bedroom at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 3 when he heard male voices downstairs. He called out and saw two men quickly leave, chasing them until they drove away.

Screens were removed from a window on a home in the 600 block of Lavergne Avenue and the home was searched between Feb. 1 and 8. Nothing was taken; the owner said nothing of value is kept in the home.

Theft

Car keys and a wallet were stolen from a purse between 1:15 and 1:50 p.m. Jan. 31 at Panera Bread, 1199 Wilmette Ave. The wallet contained $50-$60.

A red leather recliner was stolen from in front of a home in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road between 9 p.m. Jan. 30 and 7 a.m. Jan. 31.

DUI

Anish M. Shah, 28, of Skokie was arrested for DUI after his car went of the curb and hit a tree and sign at 9:20 p.m. Jan. 31 in the 600 block of Sheridan Road. He was also cited for improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions and damaging village property.

Retail Theft

Virginia W. Milnikel, 72, of Winnetka was arrested for retail theft at 1:43 p.m. Jan. 30 at Carson's Pirie Scott. She allegedly stole three $10.49 pieces of jewelry and $28 body shapers.

Approximately $2,000 worth of Mucinex was stolen at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 24 from Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road.

Criminal damage

The word “die” was written in white chalk between midnight and 1:23 a.m. Jan. 24 at the Ba'hai Temple, Ace Hardware, Dan Olson State Farm Office, Linden Cleaners and an apartment building all in the 400 block of Linden Avenue.

Driving without a license

Cristian Jimenez-Mendez, 22, of Chicago was arrested for driving without a license after he was stopped for speeding at 8:59 a.m. Jan. 30 in the 2200 block of Lake Avenue. He was also cited for driving without insurance.

Fraud

A Northern Trust Visa debit card belonging to a resident of the 2100 block of Elmwood Street was fraudulently used to make a $105 purchase at a Walmart in Tennessee between Jan. 25 and 27.
