Wilmette Blotter: Car Crashes Into Trash Can

The following information was supplied by the Wilmette police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

DUI

Evan A. Gobdel, 33, of Wilmette was arrested for DUI at 2:11 a.m. Dec. 23 after his car collided with a trash can in the 2100 block of Washington Avenue. He had also driven over the curb multiple times, damaging lawns and a tree. He was also charged with disobeying a traffic control device, improper lane usage and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Theft

A forty-two piece set of antique silverware valued at $10,000 was stolen between Nov. 25 and Dec. 25 from a home in the 600 block of Illinois Road.

A Samsung Galaxy S Mesmerize cell phone valued at $200 was lost between 10:06 and 10:30 a.m. Dec. 19 at a parking lot in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue.

Jonita J. Nabukeera, 27, was arrested for making fraudulent returns and keeping the money between Nov. 25 and Dec. 12 at Bed Bath & Beyond, 3232 Lake Ave. In a signed confession she admitted to ringing up fake customer returns totaling $247.07 and taking $6.90 in chocolate merchandise.

Christmas lights wrapped around a tree in a backyard in the 900 block of Gregory Avenue were damaged between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dec. 21.

A Men's Schwinn racing bicycle and a Men's Trek bicycle and their locks were stolen between 7:30 a.m. And 8 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Metra station at 722 Green Bay Road.

A $200 memorial plaque was stolen from the oldest tree in Wilmette between noon Dec. 19 and 8:58 a.m. Dec. 22 in the 700 block of Michigan Avenue. The thieves also used a chainsaw to steal a portion of the stump.

Criminal Damage to Property

The letters NFR were spray-painted in purple on a village-owned street light pole in the 900 block of Isabella Street at around 8 a.m. Dec. 20. The damage is estimated at $100.

A car was egged between 5 p.m. Dec. 19 and 7:26 a.m. Dec. 20 in the 700 block of Laramie Avenue.

A concrete wall and a metal post were spray-painted with messages including “Kyle Sucks” and “D.30!” at the intersection of Fourth Street and Maple Avenue. The damage was observed by a police officer at 9:47 a.m. Dec. 17.

The passenger side view mirror of a Saab convertible was broken between 5:30 p.m. Dec. 18 and 10:05 a.m. Dec. 19 in the 900 block of 12th Street.

Driving Without a License

Maria Guadalupe Almanaza-Herrera, 25, of Skokie was arrested for driving without a license at 10:35 a.m. Dec. 20 in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue after she collided with a car that was stopped at a traffic light. She was also charged with failure to reduce speed.
