Wilmette Blotter: Fraud, DUI Leads to Accident, Retail Theft

Warrant Arrest

Jose Vazquez, 33, of 1029 Wadsworth, North Chicago, was arrested Aug. 20 on outstanding warrants from Northfield and DuPage County following a traffic stop at 700 Le Claire. Police charged Vazquez with a felony after discovering that this was his third arrest for driving while license revoked for driving under the influence of alcohol. 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Jimmie R. Rogers, 25, of 309Ridge Rd., Wilmette, was charged Aug. 20 with possession of drug paraphernalia and providing alcohol to minors. 

Police arrested Rogers after responding to a call of intoxicated teenager in the parking lot near the 300 block of Ridge Road. Police were directed to an apartment the teen entered and upon entering the apartment discovered six youths between the age of 15 and 19 that were intoxicated from alcohol, drugs or both. The six youths were issued local ordinance violations. 

Fraud

A resident in the 2300 block of Meadow Drive South reported that a part-time maintenance worker stole 51 checks from his home and cashed them for a total of $13,145. 

A storeowner in the 500 block of Skokie Blouvard reported receiving $20 in counterfeit bill on Aug. 15. 

A resident in the 500 block of Washington reported on Aug. 16 that someone accessed her checking and made three unauthorized withdrawals totaling $14,000 on July 2. The withdrawals occurred in Tukwila, Washington. 

Criminal Damage

A resident in the 2500 block of Greenwood Avenue reported that someone pulled the aluminum downspout off of his residence between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Aug. 21. The loss is estimated at $50. 

DUI

Jongweon Hong, 49, of 1815 N. Cascade Dr., Vernon Hills, was charged Aug. 19 with driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to a call of a vehicle off the roadway and a driver vomiting outsidet the vehicle. Due to Hong’s inability to stand or perform field tests, he was transported to Evanston Hospital. He was cited and given an I-bond at the hospital. 

DUI Accident/ Retail Theft

Rex Martin Balz, 50, of 1830 Ridge Rd., Evanston, was charged Aug. 18 for driving under the influence of alcohol after police responded to a three-car accident in the 500 block of Green Bay Road. Balz had a blood alcohol content level of more the .08. 

Balz was also charged with retail theft after police discovered two packages of earphones during a search. Police received a call earlier about a man stealing items from Walgreens, 811 Green Bay Road. Video surveillance shows Balz purchasing vitamins but not paying for items that he put in his pants. 

Disorderly Conduct

A resident in the 300 block of Oak Circle found mud and possible animal feces spread on the driver’s door handle, window and doorframe of her car. The resident says the incidence took place between Aug. 17 and 18. 

Traffic Violations

Mario A. Moreno, 23, of 4121 W. Gladys, Chicago, was charged Aug. 18 with driving without a valid license while police were investigating a three-car accident in the 500 block of Green Bay road. Moreno was not at fault in the accident. 

Alberto Hernandez, 31, of 2653 Kedvale, Chicago, was charged Aug. 18 with driving without a driver’s license or insurance following a traffic stop in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue. 

Alexandro Gutierrez-Munoz, 23, of 2748 W. 58th St., Chicago, was charged Aug. 17 for driving without a driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 800 block of Park Ave. 

Perez Monzerato, 37, of 852 Piper Ln., Prospect Heights, was charged Aug. 16 with driving with a revoked license and driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. 

Cannabis Activity

Lee J. Wier, 19, of 1017 Greenleaf Ave., Wilmette, was issued a local ordinance ticket for cannabis activity on Aug. 17. Police detected strong odor of cannabis and observed three subjects on a porch in the 1200 block of Maple Avenue. The officer spoke with the three subjects on the porch and Weir turned over a small amount of cannabis and a pipe. 

Underage Drinking

Sean Robinson-Duff, 18, of 1430 N. Astor, Chicago, was cited Aug. 14 for underage drinking after police discovered an intoxicated youth walking around Lake and Ouimette Ln. 

Trespassing

Two drunk 21-year-olds were issued local ordinance for trespassing in Gillson Park, 101 Lake Ave., on Aug. 19. 

Jeffery P. Joseph, 21, of 9252 Home Terr., Des Plaines, and Jerry J. Mathew, 21, of 2533 Osage, Glenview, were both charged after police responded to a disturbance complaint on the lake front by the Beach. Police say the pair were part of a group that had been removed from the park earlier.
