Wilmette Blotter: Man Leaves Bong After Skipping on Cab Fare, Doors Stolen from Home

The following incidents were reported between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A tiger was graffitied with black spray paint on a wall of Re Defined Fitness, 1200 block of Washington Avenue, between Aug. 6 and 8.

A robot was graffitied with white spray paint on the east side of , 620 Locust Road, on Aug. 8 between 12:45 a.m. and 5:41 a.m. The painting also said "we come in peace."

A penguin was graffitied on a wall at the north end of , 615 Locust Road, between 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 6 and 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 7. The phrase "please don't erase me" was also sprayed near the penguin.

THEFT
A beige Schwinn Mesa Mountain bike was taken from a bike rack at between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. on July 8. The bicycle, originally purchased for $800, was reported missing on Aug. 5.

A black Trek Mountain bicycle was taken between 11 a.m. Aug. 5 and midnight on Aug. 6 from the , 722 Green Bay Road. The bicycle was purchased from Higher Gear in Wilmette and is valued at $500.

A silver and black Schwinn with 26-inch wheels was taken from the between noon and 11 p.m. on Aug. 5.

Doors were taken from a Wilmette home in the 2100 block of Wilmette Avenue that is undergoing renovations between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8. Aug. 4 to aug. 8, reported on aug. 8, 2100 block of Wilmette avenue, theft forma vacant house, An observer reported seeing a white male about 50 years of age driving a green pick-up truck take doors. Several items have been stolen from the home in 2011, including a window in January, and a washer, as well as a dryer in March.

An intruder entered the service door of a garage in the 1200 block of Glendenning Road between Aug. 7 and Aug. 8. Change was taken from the two unlocked cars in the garage.

A woman's iPhone was taken from a locker room at Centennial Pool on July 31 between 5 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. The woman reported the incident on Aug. 8. The phone was in a clear, plastic pencil case she had left near the showers for around five minutes.

A brown Gucci wallet that contained $2,170 cash, three credit cards and identification cards was taken from a customer at EcoDirect Cleaners, 3500 block of Wilmette Avenue, at around 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 6. The customer reported the wallet taken Aug. 6 to aug. 8,

A license plate was taken from a 2002 black Jeep from a home in the 1200 block of Forest Avenue between June 20 to Aug. 3.

A donation box was taken from offices at the First Presbyterian Church, 600 9th St., between Aug. 2 to Aug. 3. The box was found ripped off the wall, and several computer items were taken from the room. A gray vinyl bag was found on the floor of the room.

A man was apprehended on foot at the border of Evanston and Wilmette on Green Bay Road on Aug. 4 for stealing food from Jewel, 411 Green Bay Rd. The man tried to exit without paying for the items, which totaled $33.73.

An 18-year-old glencoe resident ditched out on paying a cab fare on Aug. 4 at 2:30 a.m. and left his backpack in the back seat of the taxi.  In addition to containing the man's identification, the bag also contained a bong, V8 juice, a t-shirt, mint chewing tobacco and other items. The driver reported the incident, which occurred in the 400 block of Poplar Drive, to Wilmette Police. Authorities contacted the man and his father, eventually going to his residence around 11 p.m. When confronted, the man said "he had the money for the fare but made a poor decision" and paid back the $15 fare, as well as a $5 tip to the driver. Police returned the backpack without the marijuana smoking device.

A bicycle was taken from the 1100 block of Greenleaf Avenue on Aug. 1 between 7 p.m. and 8:03 p.m.

BURGLARY ATTEMPT
A resident in the 3200 block of Greenleaf Avenue reported an attempted burglary to her garage between 10 p.m. Aug. 7 and 7:44 p.m. Aug 8. The resident noticed that one of the motion lights facing the garage door was unscrewed and a pry mark was on the garage door. Nothing was taken. 

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
An employee at Centennial Park, 2300 Glenview Road, was harassed over the phone on Aug. 6 around 2:47 p.m.

An employee who was terminated from the Noodle, 708 12th St., was issued a trespass warning for harassing two co-workers via text message. The ex-employee had been sending threatening messages to two individuals who still work at the restaurant between Aug. 4 and Aug. 5.  

DOMESTIC BATTERY
A 36-year-old Wilmette man was arrested on Aug. 5 and charged with domestic abuse following an altercation with his 15-year-old daughter. The man and his daughter had been arguing at their condo, when he allegedly smacked her in the face and dragged her to the floor.

DUI
A 49-year-old Wilmette woman was stopped for improper lane usage in the 400 block of Lake Avenue on Aug. 4 at 12:48 a.m. Further investigation revealed that the woman had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

SUSPENDED LICENSE
A 37-year-old chicago man was arrested at the corner of Lake Avenue and Wagner Road on Aug. 9 at 1:31 a.m. for driving with a suspended license.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Wilmette woman reported that someone in Texas had opened a fraudulent Capital One business account in her name on Aug. 2.
