Wilmette Blotter: Men Arrested for Theft, $300,000 Jewelry stolen

These are the crimes, thefts and major traffic stops reported by  between Aug. 6 and 13.

Alfred T. Scott, 29 of 11709 S. Lafayette, Chicago, was arrested Aug. 6 on one count of felony theft. While investigating a complaint of an aggressive pan-handler at 4th Street and Linden Avenue, officers were informed that Scott was a person of interest in a theft that occurred in March.

Thomas R. Harris, 21, of 4603 Davis St., Apt. 2E, Skokie, was arrested Aug. 5 with misdemeanor theft. Skokie police detained Harris as a possible suspect in an armed robbery incident in Skokie on Aug. 5. When police encountered Harris, he was riding a bike. While in custody, police said Harris denied being involved in the armed robbery but admitted to stealing a bike from the 2100 block of Parkview Court in Wilmette. He was processed and later released on a $1,500 bond and issued a Sept. 14 court date in Skokie.

Residential Burglary

About $300,000 in jewelry was stolen from a home in the 700 block of Lacrosse Avenue around 1:25 p.m. on Aug. 13. The resident had recently closed a jewelry store and kept the contents at home, he did not have a burglar alarm or safe. The resident reported finding foot prints inside of the house and the rear patio doors forced open by offenders. The burglars left a bag with a pry tool. 

Bike Theft

An unsecured men’s bike valued at $500 was reported stolen from the bike rack at the Linden CTA Station, 339 Linden Ave., between Aug. 11 and 13. 

A secured bike valued at $390 was reported stolen from the bike rack at the Linden CTA Station, 339 Linden Ave., between Aug. 4 and 8. 

An unsecured bike valued at $300 was reported stolen from the bike rack at the Linden CTA Station, 399 Linden Ave., between Aug. 10 and 11. 

Two unlocked bikes were reported stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue between Aug 7 and 8. The loss was estimated at around $1,800. 

A women’s bike valued at $500 was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1600 block of Walnut Avenue on Aug. 7. 

A men’s mountain bike valued at $500 was reported stolen from an unsecured garage in the 1600 block of Walnut Avenue between Aug. 6 and 7. 

Recovered Items

An unlocked bike that was stolen from the 2100 block of Parkview Court between Aug. 5 and 6 was later recovered by Skokie police at the corner of Parkview Court and Old Glenview Road.
