Wilmette Blotter: Pot Smokers Nabbed; Vandalism at Women's Club

The following incidents were reported between June 17 and June 16, according to police.

DRUG POSSESSION ARREST
Two Wilmette teenagers were arrested about 3:50 p.m. June 26 after police found them allegedly smoking marijuana in a car parked in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue . The 17-year-old driver at first told police she was smoking cigarettes, but she and a front-seat passenger admitted to smoking pot. Police found a plastic bag containing cannabis on the car's console. The two were issued tickets for possession of cannabis. A backseat passenger was later released to walk home.

A 46-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested in the 1100 block of Central Avenue on June 17 and charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

THEFT
Six Day Lily plants were stolen from the prairie preserve in the 2300 block of Kenilworth Avenue between 5 p.m. June 24 and 1:47 p.m. June 26. The plants are valued at $20.

A bicycle was stolen from an alley in the 700 block of Harvard Street on June 15.

A Wilmette resident reported that her wallet was stolen and that she suspected it occurred while she ate at Panera Bread on June 23. The woman told police she realized the wallet was missing later in the day when a Nordstrom representative called about a large purchase made with her credit card.

A black female with long hair, a black coat and a white skirt was later used the cards to purchase $1,943 in gift cards at two local Jewel stores, 411 Green Bay Rd. and 1517 Sheridan Rd. The suspect told a store employee that she needed to pay rent.

The stolen black Coach wallet also contained $40 in cash and identification.

A West Chicago man reported that his money clip with $ 700 was taken while he was at the Jewel store on Green Bay Road on June 23. The man told police that he placed the clip atop a change machine at the register to assist in bagging his groceries. He suspected a woman with blond hair in a ponytail and accompanied by a boy, age 9-13, took  it. Surveillance cameras showed the woman apparently putting the clip into her purse.

A Schwinn Ranger mountain bike was taken from the Wilmette Metra station between 7:30 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. on June 22. The bike is valued at $120.

FRAUD
A Wilmette resident reported that $4,794 was fraudulently withdrawn from her debit account on June 20. The woman later learned that a check with her account number was used to pay an employee of a Georgia-based cleaning service. Another check was also written in the same town for an employee who works at Olive Garden. The routing numbers on the checks indicated a Tampa account, and there was no indication that the crime occurred in Wilmette.

A Wilmette resident reported on June 25 that his credit card was fraudulently used to make a $772.93 purchase at Vitamix between June 14 and June 23.

PHONE COMPLAINT
A Wilmette resident in the 500 block of Lawler Avenue passed out after she allegedly received a series of harassing phone calls regarding her son on June 26. An ambulance took the woman to a hospital after the incident.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A hand-sized rock was thrown through a window during a large wedding reception at the Wilmette Women's Club at 10:15 p.m. June 25. The custodian who reported the crime said the window was custom made and estimated damage at more than $300.  

STOLEN CAR FOUND
A silver four-door vehicle that was leaking oil and had a smashed window was discovered in the parking lot of Carson Pierie Scott in Eden's Plaza at 11:48 p.m. on June 23. Police checked the car's license plate and discovered the vehicle had been stolen in Skokie earlier that day.

BATTERY
A man visited the police station June 22 to reported an altercation with a driver. The motorist said he was involved in a traffic accident  at 3300 Old Glenview Rd. and the other driver struck him in the chest.

DUI,
A 50-year-old Wilmette resident was stopped for a traffic violation in the 2700 block of Wilmette Avenue at 8:41 p.m. on June 23. The woman failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and transporting her 16-year-old son while under the influence.
