Wilmette Blotter: 6 Unlocked Garages Burgled in 2 Days, Bike Thefts

A Mac Book Pro and hard drive was stolen from the rear seat of a car parked in the lot at Millen’s Hardware, 1219 Wilmette Ave. The burglar gained entry by breaking out the rear passenger window. The loss was estimated at $2,300. 

About $1,000 in Canadian dollars were stolen from an unlocked car parked in the 200 block of Dupee Place between Aug. 13 and15.

Burglary to Unlocked Garages

Between Aug. 20 and 21 there were six burglaries to unlocked garages in Wilmette. Vehicles in these garages were also entered. In most cases bikes were stolen. 

  1. Two bikes were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 800 block of Elmwood Avenue, the loss was estimated at $400. 
  2. A bike and an iPhone were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1000 block of Ashland Avenue, the loss was estimated at $800. 
  3. Burglars entered an unlocked garage in the 1000 block of Greenwood Avenue was entered by burglars but nothing appears to be missing.
  4. Burglars entered a garage in the 1200 block of Ashland Avenue  but nothing appears to be missing.
  5. A bike was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1200 block of Ashland Avenue. The loss was estimated at $200.
  6. A bike was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1300 block of Ashland Avenue. No loss estimated was provided at this time.

Burglary to Garage

A Trek bike valued at $2,686 was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1600 block of Washington Avenue during the overnight hours of Aug. 15. The burglars bypassed other bikes in the garage.

Two bikes were stolen from a home in the 1500 block of Washington Avenue between Aug. 5 and 20. The loss was estimated at $2,800.

A bike was stolen from an unlocked garage in the 200 block of 6th Street between Aug. 18 and 19. No loss estimate was provided at this time.

Theft

A bike was stolen from the Linden “L” station, 339 Linden Ave., between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Aug. 20. No total loss estimate was provided at this time.

A locked bike was stolen from the Metra Station, 722 Green Bay Rd., on Aug. 12. No loss estimate was provided.

A customer at Rolf Salon, 1185 Wilmette Ave., left without paying for a haircut, color and manicure on Aug. 14. No loss estimate was provided

A Louis Vuitton wallet containing credit and identification cards were stolen from Walker Bros, 153 Green Bay Rd., between 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on Aug. 19. The victim hung her purse on the back of her chair and later received phone calls about suspicious transactions of about $2,200 were made on her credit card. The loss was estimated at $880.
