Wilmette Man Indicted in Real Estate Fraud
Donald Doering and his business partner had supposedly stole $2 million of their customers' money to pay for personal debt.
Regent Realty co-owner and 63-year-old Wilmette resident Donald Doering was charged with fraud Wednesday for allegedly stealing more than $2 million in assessment payments, Chicago Breaking Business reports.
Doering has been accused, along with his business partner Jay Strauss, of supposedly using the millions to pay personal debt acquired from a real estate project. The money came from assessments Regent Realty gave condo owners between 2005 and 2008, according to the indictment.
The duo's company had been investigated by Chicago police since 2008, when condo owners filed 30 complaints because building bills were left unpaid for months.
