Wilmette Police Blotter: $50,00 Worth of Jewelry Stolen, Appliance Theft

Jewelry Theft

$50,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen from a home in the 700 block of 9th Street sometime between June 30 and July 6. The stolen items include a woman’s engagement ring with a 2.5-carat emerald cut diamond, a 1-carat diamond necklace and a diamond pendant.

About $5,000 worth of jewelry was reported missing July 16 from a home in the 900 block of Greenwood Ave. The resident said a maid, a babysitter and a daughter planning to sell jewelry at Wilmette Summerfest all had access to the tray, which contained about 50 different kinds of jewelry. 

Bike Theft

Three bikes valued at a total of $1,100 were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 200 block of Thelin Court sometime between July 9 and 11. 

Two bikes valued at a total of $200 were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 800 block of Oakwood Avenue between the overnight hours of July 12 and 13. 

Two bikes valued at a total of $500 were stolen from a home in the 300 block of Linden Avenue on July 11. Both bikes were later recovered, one at Linden train station and the other was later recovered in Evanston. A CTA employee at the Linden stop alerted police to a man who exited the train and then return five minutes later carrying two bikes. The man was denied entry and when told that police were called, fled eastbound on Linden Avenue on one of the bikes, police said. The man was described as African American in his 20’s, last seen wearing a white t-shirt, gray shorts and black gym shoes. 

A Schwinn Traveler 10-speed bike was stolen from a home in the 1500 block of Highland Avenue between July 10 and 11. No estimate of the bike was provided. 

Appliances Stolen from Vacant Home

Appliances valued at a total of $4,400 were stolen from a vacant home in the 200 block of Locust Road sometime between June 13 and July 11. The offenders removed a double oven, dehumidifier and a dishwasher from the secured home. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence, according to police.
