Wilmette Police Blotter: Arrested Woman Suspected in California Identity Theft Ring

The following incidents occurred between April 6 and April 10.

WEBSITE IMPOSTOR

A Wilmette resident reported that between March 13 and April 6 someone posed as him in creating a fake website using false information. The resident suspects it is a former co-worker,  police reported.

A 35-year-old California resident was arrested and charged with possessing a fictitious identification and identity theft. The woman was take into custody April 7 at 1:52 p.m. in the 100 block of Green Bay Road after she posed as a New York resident at a bank and attempted to withdraw $3,000. Authorities said the offender might be a part of a large California identity theft ring that commits bank fraud.

ARREST AT POLICE STATION

A 63-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested at the police station over bond forfeiture warrants from Wilmette and River Forest.

DRIVING VIOLATIONS

A 22-year-old Chicago resident was charged with driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance on April 8. The driver was stopped following a traffic violation at Laramie and Forest avenues. He was released on a $2,000 bond.

A 48-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested on April 8 at 5:20 p.m.  for driving with a revoked license and registration along Green Bay Road. The motorist was issued two traffic citations and eventually released on bond.

A 56-year-old Chicago man was arrested in the 200 block of Green Bay Road on April 10 at 12:03 a.m. Police charged him with driving on a suspended registration and license. He was released after bond was posted.

THEFT

Police discovered the Cornell Street sign had been removed at the corner of Cornell Street and Lake Avenue. The discovery came after a resident notified authorities that she saw a male ran through her yard in the 700 block of Laramie Avenue on April 8. She said the individual ran to a gray Jeep SUV and drove east on Lake Avenue.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

A 59-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:26 p.m. April 8. The man was held overnight and faced a bond court hearing on April 9.

HOME BURGLARY

A home in the 3100 block of Hill Lane was burglarized between 7:30 p.m. April 8 and 12:38 a.m. April 9. The residents were out for a family birthday and returned to find items stolen. They noticed that the yard gate on the west side of the house was open.

DRUG ARREST

A 29-year-old Wilmette resident was stopped in the 900 block of Romona Road on April 9 at 1:46 a.m. for a traffic violation. Police reported smelling an alcoholic beverage odor when they approached the car. Authorities discovered that the driver had an arrest warrant out from Cook County over a suspended driver's license. After searching the car, police found two small bags of white powder, which later turned out to be heroin.

DUI ARRESTS

A 21-year-old Indiana man was arrested in the 2200 block of Lake Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on April 10. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content was .162, police reported.

A 53-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested in the 2200 block of Chestnut Avenue and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She refused a breath test.

AUTO BURGLARY

An iPod was stolen from an unlocked car in the 1200 block of Gregory Avenue.

Overnight on April 10, a stereo was taken from an unlocked car in the 1300 block of Gregory Avenue.
