Wilmette Police Blotter: Jewelry Theft, Burglary to Cars

Theft

Jewelries valued at $3,500 were reported stolen from a home in the 2000 block of Birchwood Avenue, according to police. The resident told police he suspects the caretaker took platinum diamond rings, cash and a thick gold chain from the home.

An employee at a business in the 3000 block of Lake Avenue reported her wallet was stolen while working at the store. Her credit card was later used to make several unauthorized purchases totaling some $7,000, according to police reports. 

Maurika Jackson, 25, 11555 S. Sangamon St., Chicago, was arrested June 23 for retail theft after she was observed stealing numerous cosmetics valued at $680 by store employees at Jewel Food Store, 411 Green Bay Rd., police said.

DUI

Justin Vorpahl, 23, 110 High Oak, Denton, Texas, was arrested June 23 for driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level over 0.8 following a traffic stop at Lake Avenue and Hibbard Road. 

Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A purse with contents valued at $450 was stolen from a locked vehicle parked at Centennial Park, 2300 Old Glenview Rd., on June 18. The offenders shattered the rear driver side window to gain entry. 

Warrant Arrest

Michelle Johnson, 27, 6308 S. Maplewood, Chicago, was arrested June 19 by Chicago Police Department on a warrant for fraudulent use of credit card relating to a purse theft investigation. 

Crime Alert

Wilmette has experienced three incidents this past week in which car windows were broken out and the vehicles were burglarized, police said. 

Each incident occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. along the 2300 to 300 block of Old Glenview Road. In each incident, a purse or handbag was visible inside the vehicle and was the target of the burglary. 

Police are reminding residents to not leave purses or other valuables visible inside unattended vehicles.
