Wilmette Police Blotter: Polish Profanity Painted on School Roof

Criminal Damage

An unknown offender caused approximately $300 damage to Romona School, 600 Romona Road, when the person spray painted a school wall sometime between 4 p.m. on Nov. 16 and 8:40 a.m. on Nov. 19. The offender gained access to the school roof and used black spray paint to write Polish profanity and a draw a smiley face. The offender also wrote the words “laugh” and “love” in blue and red spray paint.

Cannabis Possession

Two Wilmette teens were issued ordinance violations for possessions of cannabis and one Winnetka teen was issued a curfew violation after the three were stopped by police behind Wilmette Junior High, 620 Locust Road, at 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 20. According to the police report, the officer saw the three teens behind the school, conducted a street stop and discovered both cannabis and drug paraphernalia on the two Wilmette teens. After the teens were arrested and issued the ordinance violations, they were released to their parents.

A Glenview teen was arrested and issued an ordinance violation for possession of cannabis after the 17-year-old was stopped by police in the 700 block of Laporte Avenue at 8:33 p.m. on Nov. 17. Police reported they performed a street stop after they noticed a suspicious occupied vehicle and subsequently found the driver to be in possession of marijuana.

Leaving the Scene of an Accident

A 65-year-old woman was cited for damage to village property, leaving the roadway and an improper turn after the woman drove into three trees and a sign in the 800 block of Laramie Avenue at 11:58 p.m. on Nov. 16. According to the report, the woman then drove in reverse, back across the grass, and proceeded to drive her heavily damaged vehicle home. Police reported finding the woman later, uninjured, walking her dog.

Theft Arrest

A 16-year-old Winnetka boy was arrested for stealing pumpkins and scarecrow decorations from a home located in the 1000 block of Seneca Road sometime between 10 p.m. on Nov. 15 and 8 p.m. the following day. They boy accidentally dropped his wallet on the home’s lawn, and after police tracked him down, he reportedly admitted to his involvement and was released to his parent.

Attempted Auto Burglary

An unknown offender unsuccessfully attempted to break into a vehicle parked in a lot located in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue sometime between 9:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 17. The victim told police he parked his car in the lot while at work and that it appeared someone had attempted to burglarize his car by punching out the door lock. The police report states the man “saw a hole where the lock core of his driver’s door used to be” and that the man “found the core on the ground to the north of the car” a short while later. The victim told police nothing appeared to be missing from his vehicle.

Burglary

A $300 bicycle was stolen from the screened back porch of a home located in the 1500 block of Elmwood Avenue sometime between Nov. 11 and Nov. 18.
