Wilmette Police Blotter: Theft, Bikes Stolen from Unlocked Garages

Theft

A new lawn mower was stolen from the 500 block of Gregory Avenue on May 27. The owner told police he left it for about 10 minutes and when he returned he saw the lawn mower on the back of a white pickup truck. The resident believes that it was a scrapper.

A black iPhone valued at $50 was stolen in Gillson Park, 700 Michigan Ave., on May 23.

A skateboard helmet valued at $50 was reported stolen at Highcrest School, 569 Hunter Road sometime between May 21 and 23.

Bikes stolen from unlocked garages

Two mountain bikes valued at $800 were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 600 block of Laurel Avenue between May 26 and 27. Some $20 in coins was also taken from an unlocked vehicle parked in the garage.

A mountain bike valued at $360 was reported stolen from an unlocked garage in the 1700 block of Highland Avenue.

A cruiser bike valued at $100 was stolen from an unlocked garage on May 27. Some $100 in cash was also taken from the unlocked vehicle parked in the garage.

Fraud

A caregiver for a resident in the 300 block of Beverly Drive was scammed out of $745.75, according to police report. The victim received a call from a person claiming to be a paralegal advising her to repay a loan she owed.  The victim sent the money and later attempted to stop the transaction but it was too late.

A resident reported that he never received the Black Berry purchased off Craigslist even though the seller had received the check.

A resident in the 1800 block of Forest Avenue reported receiving a call on May 24 from someone claiming to be her son needing $980 to be wired to Spain because he was speeding. Ten minutes later the resident received another call from someone claiming to be her son’s attorney. The resident’s caretaker took over the call to get the details but felt the call was suspicious.

Attempted residential burglary

A resident in the 100 block of Thelin Court reported that a glass window on the home’s rear door was broken on May 23. It did not appear that anyone had entered the home. The damage is estimated to cost $200.

Domestic battery

A resident in the 1000 block of Isabella Street reported May 24 that her boyfriend hit her during an argument. The boyfriend left the scene before police arrived.

Driving under the influence of alcohol

Brooke B. Stoltz, 40 7649 Greenview, Chicago, was charged May 22 with driving under the influence of alcohol and other traffic offenses.
