Wilmette Police Blotter: Theft of Credit Card, Trees, Bikes and Clothes

Credit Card Theft at Bed Bath and Beyond

Joelle Bernadel, 36, 731 Dodge Ave., Evanston, was charged May 1 with unlawful use of credit cards that were stolen from Bed Bath and Beyond, 3232 Lake Ave.

Three customers complained that they lost their credit cards at the store. After reviewing the store’s security tape, the store’s manager found that Bernadel, a cashier at the store, would give customers their receipts but no their credit cards, police said. The security tape also showed Bernadel pushing a cart with a purse that was left behind out of the store and re-entering the store without the shopping cart or purse, police said.

A credit card was stolen at Bed Bath and Beyond, 3232 Lake Ave., on April 30 and used to make two unauthorized charges that were both less than $40 each.

A credit card was taken following a purchase at Bed Bath and Beyond, 3232 Lake Ave., between May 1 and 3. No unauthorized purchases were made on the card. The offender was not charged at the victim’s request and the credit card was returned.

Green Thieves

Two Japanese maple trees, valued at $460 total, were stolen from a home in the 700 block of Park Avenue on May 3.

Burglary

Two mountain bikes were reported missing from an unlocked garage in the 100 block of Girard Avenue on May 1. One of the bikes was found in the alley behind the garage. The other mountain bike, a Gary Fisher Sugar 2 mountain bike valued at $600, was stolen.

Retail Theft at Carson Pirie Scott

Two Chicago women were charged April 30 with retail theft at Carson Pirie Scott, 3200 Lake Avenue. Police reports say that the women each hid a shirt under their clothes and had a mug in their possession. The shirts and mug were valued at $154.

Sheri Gamble, 45, 4454 Racine Ave., Chicago, and Surat Bashorun, 51, 1040 Hollywood Ave., Chicago were both charged with retail theft on April 30. They were later released and issued a May 18 court date.
