Wilmette Police Blotter: Underage Drinking in the Park, Firecrackers in the Dumpster

Drinking in the Park

Three teens were issued tickets on June 26 for drinking in Gillson Park, 700 Michigan Avenue while under 21 years old. 

Firecrackers in the Dumpster

Six to seven teens were seen throwing a firecracker into a dumpster in the 1000 block of Central Avenue on July 3, according to police. The contents in the dumpster caught on fire and charred the top of the dumpster and melted some stickers on the dumpster.

Assault

Philip C. Risch, 53, of 1131 Ridge Rd., was arrested July 3 for assaulting an electrician who had come to work on the house at the request of the landlord.

Spray Paint on Isabella Bridge

Spray paint was found on the bridge at 200 Isabella Street on July 3. 

Tagging the Truck

A teen was seen tagging the rear door of a Wilmette Public Works truck while hitching a ride on the back of the truck. When confronted by the driver the teen fled on foot, leaving behind a navy backpack that contained an Apple iPod, gift cards, sharpie markers and two video games. 

Driving Incidents

Michael Rockoff, 64, of 3712 W. Le Moyne, Chicago, was arrested July 1 for aggravated driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop at Lake Avenue and Skokie Boulevard. He was charged with one felony count and one misdemeanor count of driving while license suspended, and not wearing a seatbelt. He was issued a July 12 court date in Skokie. 

Luis A. Candeljas, 17, of 3266 W. Palmer, Chicago was arrested June 29 for driving without a valid driver’s license following a traffic stop at Lake Street and Hibbard Road. 

Edgar Cuenca, 25, of 550 Audry, Wheeling, was arrested June 29 for driving without a proper license, operating an uninsured vehicle and speeding following a traffic stop at 15th Street and Lake Street. He was later released and issued an Aug. 13 court date in Skokie. 

Benny Onofre, 22, of 38703 Sheridan Rd., #125, Beach Park, was arrested June 27 for driving without a valid driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 1600 block of Wilmette Avenue. The passenger, Rosa Flores- Moreno, 28, 38703 Sheridan Rd., #125, Beach Park, was arrested on a warrant for bond forfeiture for driving while license suspended. 

Ever Mauricio Gutierrez-Cordero, 22, of 2231 W. Morse Ave., #2, Chicago, was arrested June 27 for driving without a valid driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 400 block of Green Bay Road.
