Wilmette Sunday Blotter: Woman Threatened by Husband with Meat Cleaver

A list of incidents from the past week, according to police reports.

THEFT:

A Chicago resident filed a report about her purse being taken from the Jewel parking lot at 411 Green Bay Rd. on Feb. 26. The victim said the item was taken while she was unlaoding her groceries. She sighted a white female who left the secene in a blue vehicle as a potential suspect.

A resident in the 600 block of Hibbard Road reported that a friend had taken her jewelry between Feb. 21 and 24. Police discovered that the friend had pawned the items at A-1 Jewelry and Loan in Niles. The victim told authorities that she wishes to sign a complaint.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE:

 Sometime between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Feb. 24, unknown suspect(s) threw a brick through the first floor of a property in the 1300 block of Wilmette Avenue.

The owner of C.J. Arthur's told authorities that a group of juveniles who were attending a private party in the establishment on Feb. 26 had cut the edge of a table with a knife. According to the owner, the table had just been refinished. Authorities reported that a parent of one fo the accused juveniles is willing to make restitution.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT:

A resident in the 3700 block of Lake Avenue reported that she received threatening phone calls from her husband, who resides in India, on Feb. 28 at 3:30 p.m. Her husband had allegedly threatened to kill her after he discovered an affair between the resident and a man living in London, according to police reports. The resident is concerned that when her husband returns at the end of March he will hurt her, she told authorities. The resident said she will seek an order of protection and has established a complaint with the Consulate General in India.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT:

A resident in the 3100 block of Nina Avenue reported that two men selling frozen steaks approached his wife at 4:09 p.m. on Feb. 28. According to the resident, the men were very pushy and tried to gain access to the residence. When the resident's wife refused, the men supposedly became upset. Both men were described as Hispanic-looking and driving a dark blue or black truck with possible Florida plates. The incident happened on Feb. 28 around 4:09 p.m.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS: 

A 63-year-old Wilmette resident was stopped for traffic offenses at Wilmette Avenue and Forest Avenue on Feb. 28 at 10:55 p.m. The woman failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for driving under the influence of drugs. Police reported that the woman refused a blood and urine test, and was released on an I-bond after processing.


DOMESTIC TROUBLE:

Officers responded to a domestic situation between a resident and his girlfriend in an Elmwood Avenue home March 1 at 9 a.m. This couple was arguing over what police have deemed a civil matter.

Police were called to a residence on Linden Avenue at 9:50 p.m. on March 1 for a domestic dispute between a husband, his wife and his daughter. After the incident was resolved, all three persons agreed to separate to different parts of the home.

A domestic altercation occured between a husband, his wife and his daughter in a residence on Richmond Lane at 3 p.m. on March 3. The husband supposedly verbally assaulted his wife and daughter while holding a meat cleaver, the wife told authorities. The 62-year-old man also supposedly made statements about getting a gun and shooting his wife, as well as himself. The man was arrested for aggravated assault and held at the Wilmette Police station for a bond hearing in domestic violence court. An initial court date for the charge has been set on March 9 at 9 a.m.

WELL BEING CHECKED:

A 43-year-old Wilmette resident attempted to pick up her children from McKenzie Elementary School on March 1 at 3:01 p.m. while intoxicated. Authorities subjected the woman to a portable breath test, which revealed a blood alcohol clevel of .161. She had admitted to consuming two glasses of wine. Authorities turned the children over to a relative. A school social worker informed police that this was a repeated offense for the woman.
