Wilmette Tuesday Blotter: Craigslist Ad Tampering; Underage Drinkers Held

The following incidents were taken from police reports for March 29-April 4.

DUI
A 25-year-old Northbrook resident was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in the 3100 block of Lake Avenue on March 27 at 3:44 a.m. Police said a breath test revealed the man had a blood alcohol content of .091.

A 41-year-old Chicago resident was arrested in the 3200 block of Lake Avenue on March 29 at 1:48 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police stopped the man after he failed to properly signal while driving. They also later administered a breath test that revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .242.

A 32-year-old Glenview resident was arrested in the 3100 block of Lake Avenue on April 3 at 3:24 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. The man had failed to signal properly and had no proof of insurance. Police said a breath test later revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .141.

A 25-year old Wilmette resident was stopped for traffic violations in the 1900 block of Schiller Avenue on April 4. The resident failed a field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. Authorities discovered the driver, who refused a breath test, had a revoked license and a record of DUIs. He was charged on three accounts.

A 48-year-old Chicago resident was stopped for various traffic violations in the 3500 block of Lake Avenue on April 4. He failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said a breath test revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .181.

POSSESSION OF LIQUOR
Three Wilmette and Kenilworth juveniles sitting along the wall inside the skate park at the , 3000 Glenview Rd., were stopped for the illegal possession of alcohol on March 29 at 9:44 p.m.

Officers discovered a bottle of Grande Amber brandy, and one of the males later indicated that he had taken the alcohol earlier in the night from . Preliminary breath tests revealed three of the boys had measurements of .030 or higher and one registered zero. They were transported to Wilmette police station and released to their parents' custody.

ARREST
A 20-year-old Glenview resident was stopped for traffic violations at the corner of Lake Avenue and Sunset Ridge Road. The driver was found without a valid license and later released from the Wilmette police station.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 1600 block of Lake Avenue reported that his car was vandalized between 8:35 p.m. March 28 and 9:48 a.m. March 29. Written in black marker on the vehicle was the message, "Flip me the bird again you lil c#@% and you'll get a worse reward than this." The resident suspected the offender was someone he had a verbal confrontation with earlier Wednesday.

An employee of reported March 30 a storage garage was vandalized in the 700 block of 12th Street. The graffiti incident occurred between March 29 and March 30, when a mushroom with a smile on its stem, the number 240 and a purple star overlaying a circle marked up the facility. Along the fence the word "PURP" was also written. 

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A 47-year-old Chicago man was arrested March 29 for disorderly conduct at Wilmette Village Hall. The man was taken into custody  after he exposed himself to staff near the Park District offices

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE
Seven chainsaws were taken from a tree service truck parked overnight at a BP Amoco gasoline station, 840 Skokie Blvd. The incident was reported at 8 p.m. on March 31.

A Wilmette resident in the 200 block of Sunset Drive reported several items, including a purse, wallet and credit cards, were strewn about the area after an unlocked vehicle was burglarized between 11 p.m. April 1 and 6:20 a.m. April 2. 

THEFT
Two juveniles stole bags of peanuts from a display rack at Five Guys Burgers in Edens Plaza at 6:30 p.m. March 29. The same two youths returned to the restaurant at 8:15 p.m. and damaged bags of potatoes on display.

FRAUDULENT ACTIVITY
A 63-year-old man told police on April 2 that unauthorized charges had been made on three of his credit cards between Feb. 4 and Feb. 16. According to the report, the man was a former resident in the 400 block of Skokie Boulevard, but has been staying in Chicago while going through a divorce.

The man said 13 unauthorized charges totaling $1,701.72 were made to his Bank of America card, two unauthorized charges totaling $640.58 were made to his Nordstrom card and nine unauthorized charges totaling $421.64 were made to his Dick's Sporting Goods Master Card. He had left the cards at his Wilmette residence and suspects his estranged wife, stepdaughter or former cleaning crew of making the purchases.

An Evanston resident reported April 1 that he had posted a rental ad on Craigslist for a property in the 3000 block of Hill Lane in Wilmette. A short time after the listing was posted, someone had tampered with his ad and was redirecting interested parties to another e-mail account.

CITATION
A 49-year-old Wauconda resident was stopped for traffic violations in the 1500 block of Lake Avenue on April 1. Authorities discovered the man had a revoked driver's license. He was taken into custody and was charged with aggravated driving. The man was held overnight for an April 2 bond hearing.
