Wilmette Tuesday Blotter: Criminal Damage at Wilmette Junior High and Missing Adult
The following incidents were reported by Wilmette Police between March 22 and March 27.
THEFT OF JEWELRY
A Wilmette resident reported on March 22 at 1:45 p.m. that $2,000 worth of diamond rings were missing from her residence. The jewelry had been missing since Feb. 17, but was reported after the resident searched out the items for nearly six weeks. She said her husband, son and a few of her son's friends were in the home when the items disappeared.
UNDERAGE DRINKING, VANDALISM
Two Wilmette man, ages 18 and 19, were charged on March 24 at 1:05 a.m. with underage drinking, disorderly conduct and entering a closed public facility after dark near . Police found one of the teens was found on his back beside a school bus, while the other emerged from the back of the bus moments later. A fire extinguisher was discharged and found at the front of the bus. After Breathalyzer tests, one man had a blood alcohol content of .135, while the other's was .103. The defendants must work out restitution with School District 39's bus company for any damage.
CAR BURGLARY SUSPECT CHASED
A 22-year-old Chicago man was charged on March 24 at 2:56 p.m. after he entered a car parked in the 700 block of Ridge Road in an attempt to take loose change. A friend of the car's owner saw the attempted burglary and reported the incident to authorities. The friend chased the offender in the 800 block of Ridge Road, and police apprehended the would-be burglar at the corner of Birchwood Avenue and Ridge Road. The offender was released on a $1,500 bond. There were no damage reported to the vehicle or property reported missing.

MISSING ADULT
A couple in the 600 block of Laporte Avenue reported their 22-year-old son was missing on March 24 at 11:14 p.m. The Wilmette residents told authorities that he was last seen at 6 p.m. March 23. They found a note from their son saying he was going to join the Navy and could not reach him because his cell phone was turned off. The parents told police that this is not normal behavior of their son.
FAILURE TO PAY REPAIR BILL
The owner of Wilmette Auto Body, 1902 Lake Ave., reported on March 25 at 10:10 a.m. that a female customer has twice failed to pay for repairs. The owner told police he is willing to pursue charges.

NOISE COMPLAINT
A car alarm for a vehicle parked in the 400 bock of Ridge Road went off between 7 p.m. and 11:40 p.m. on March 25. The car belongs to a 42-year-old Wilmette resident who could not be found by police. As a result, the vehicle was towed by Lin-Mar Towing to a lot in Morton Grove. A ticket was written for the violation.
DUI
A 26-year-old Summit resident was charged on March 27 at 3:18 a.m. in the 1600 block of Sheridan Road with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police stopped the man for speeding and driving under an expired license. The driver refused police request for a breath test.

A 25-year-old Washington resident was charged on March 27 at 3:44 a.m. in the 3100 block of Lake Avenue with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police reported the man failed a field sobriety test, was speeding and was determined to have a blood alcohol content of .091.
