Wilmette Wednesday Blotter: Jewel Manager Hit with Cane; Laptops Stolen and More

The following incidents occurred April 11-17, according to Wilmette Police reports.

DUI
A 53-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested in the 2200 block of Chestnut Avenue at 6:01 p.m. April 11. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

A 52-year old Evanston resident was stopped in the 1100 block of Wilmette Avenue on April 13 at 7:41 a.m. for a traffic violation. The resident was charged with an aggravated driving under the influence (DUI) once it was discovered he had several DUI convictions in Texas. He refused a breath test.

A 36-year-old Waukegan man was stopped in the 1000 block of Skokie Boulevard at 3:56 a.m. April 17 and arrested on a charge of  driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver had a blood alcohol content of  .224, according to police. He also had no insurance and did an improper lane usage.

A 62-year-old Wilmette man was stopped April 17 in the 100 block of Sheridan Road and arrested on charges of driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license.

AUTO BURGLARY
A resident in the 1200 block of Gregory Avenue noticed April 11 that his iPod was missing and a console in his car had been opened. The resident became aware of the incident when he went to move the car to his home's garage, according to the report.

A resident in the 800 block of Romona Avenue reported that 16 items were taken from his work van, including a tool kit, between April 14 and April 17. The resident said his vehicle was locked and there were no signs of force entry, according to police.

THEFT
Seven Mac laptops were taken from Marie Murphy School between March 18 and April 4. The incident was reported April 11. Each computer is valued at $1,100.

A Regina Dominican student reported that her Nikon digital camera was taken from her locker on April 13.

A Skokie resident reported that she had left her purse on the ground after eating at the Five Guys shop in Eden's Plaza at 3:30 p.m. on April 13. When she returned to the restaurant later that day to retrieved her bag from a cashier, she found that $100 was missing along with other belongings.

A former Wilmette resident reported that 14 items totaling $1,345 went missing between Sept. 10 and Jan. 5. The resident filed a report on April 14, when she returned to Wilmette from Florida. The items had been placed in a storage unit and were then supposed to be shipped to Florida, according to the police report.

A Wilmette resident's wallet and cell phone were taken from the Starbucks at 739 Green Bay Rd. on April 18. The resident had left the items on the counter top at 2 p.m. She returned to the cafe around 2:30 p.m. that day to find the items missing.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident's front porch railings were damaged in the 1400 block of Forest Avenue between 10 p.m. April 13 and 7:45 a.m. April 14.  A red Blackhawks cap was discovered near the stairs with the name "Matthews" written into the rim, according to the report.

A resident in the 100 block of Prairie Avenue reported that the side front window of his Jaguar was shattered between April 11 and April 13. The resident said the left doors to the car were unlocked and the sunroof ajar. The resident said he usually leaves the vehicle in an alley adjacent to the garage in the 300 block of Park Avenue.

A basketball bounced off the rim at a Wilmette Junior High School court, located in the 800 block of LaCrosse Court, and broke off the passenger side mirror of a car on April 13. The driver had been dropping off her daughter at the school.

A resident in the 2000 block of Central Avenue reported that the front windshield of her car had been damaged during the night of April 16. The resident reported hearing a vehicle accelerating in the area overnight, followed by a glass bottle hitting the ground. She discovered an unbroken, empty bottle of wine that she suspects was used in the incident.

Two juveniles were seen setting fire to playground equipment at Gilson Park on April 15.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A residence in the 700 block of LeClaire Avenue was buglarized between 7 a.m. and 12:26 p.m. April 14. The front door was forced open and the deadbolt was found in the driveway along with screws and pieces of wood. A small TV, $100, jewelry and a Social Security card were among the items reported taken.

A home in the 600 block of Central Avenue was burglarized between April 6 and April 14. The residents had been out of town since April 1, but the home was last checked on April 6 by their daughter. Entry was gained through the back door and a rock was thrown at a window. Jewelry, binoculars and five sets of cuff links were reported taken.

BATTERY

A 69-year-old Wilmette resident was arrested April 14 after she used her cane to strike a manager at the Jewel Foods in the 1500 block of Sheridan Road. The resident was charged with battery.

UNDERAGE DRINKING
A 14-year-old resident in the 1000 block of Elmwood Avenue along with several guests attending a party were cited for underage drinking April 16. The teen and guests were turned over to the custody of their parents or guardians.
