Woman Interrupts Car Burglary in Progress

Car burglary in progress                

A Gurnee woman told police that a man wearing a black sweatshirt carrying a black backpack was inside her vehicle in the 400 block of Lake at 9 p.m. on Oct. 19. She said he fled the area after she confronted him, according to police reports. She told police the contents of her purse were emptied on the floor of the vehicle. The only thing missing was her Illinois driver’s license.  Officers were unable to locate the offender.

A woman took five champagne bottles from the Jewel on Sheridan Rd and left without paying, police said. Total value of the property was $225.

A citizen reported that the close circuit surveillance cameras in the parking lot in the 700 block of 11th St. 10-17-13 from 12:00PM to 10-18-13 at 6:30AM.  were tampered with between noon Oct. 17 and 6:30 a.m. Oct. 18. Cameras were pointed at walls, ceilings and others the mounts were damaged.                 

Disorderly conduct

A 21-year-old resident reported Oct. 18 that she was receiving harassing text messages from her old employer.               

Arrest

A Wilmette police officer spotted a vehicle Oct. 19 at 8:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Skokie Blvd. that had been identified from a Skokie retail theft. Police stopped it on the I-94 spur east of Waukegan. The driver, Larry Darnell Stephens, 21, of Milwaukee, was found to have three warrants, one from Lake County and two from Wisconsin, according to police. He driver was transported to the Wilmette PD and processed for the warrants.
